About the shelter

Tatiana Kuzikova’s family founded Cat House (Кошкин Дом) 27 years ago. It is a private shelter in the centre of Odesa. Officially, it is a registered animal welfare NGO.

«The more we place, the more we take from the street»the shelter motto

Now the shelter cares for 70+ cats and 20+ dogs. The shelter is in a residential building, so the dogs live outside the city in paid foster care.

Many of our cats are old: their owners died or put them out on the street. Old cats are afraid of noise, so we do not use a vacuum cleaner and clean by hand.

Tatiana cleans, feeds and treats the animals herself. The shelter is in a basement with small windows, and the cats do not get enough sun. So all cats eat good food, and sick cats get prescription food.

How we rescue

  1. ClinicWe take every animal we find to a clinic first: check-up, tests, treatment, parasite control.
  2. ShelterThe animal lives in the shelter and gets used to people. We spay or neuter all adult cats.
  3. HomeWe look for a responsible family.

  • In the last six months we took in 16 animals that people left behind in rented flats.
